House Rules Wild-card poker · PokerPhil Gawron
Chapter 1

Welcome

Why this book exists, and how to use it at your table.

A friendly home game — the heart of House Rules poker
A friendly home game — the heart of House Rules poker

Do you know how to play poker?

Are you sure?

While the basics of poker remain the same from game to game, it seems that almost every house has its own special rules. This can leave a person feeling cheated or at least at a disadvantage.

House Rules solves that problem. With a complete list of games to choose from, along with a list of special rules, any player can study these one night and sit down the next night ready to play — so nobody at your table gets Lollapalooza’d.

Many hours have been spent trying to find new and interesting games. Even more time has been spent refining these games and the rules for a completely enjoyable evening. With this in mind, I would like to extend my thanks to Jonathan Otey and Vince Kisala for all of their time during this process. They each have contributed several games to this book and refined many others.

I would also like to thank my wife, Kim Gawron, for all the nights she supported my efforts. She truly is the love of my life.

Remember, while poker is played for money, it is not a source of income. Do not play with more than you can afford to lose. Viewing a night of poker as entertainment will put any losses into perspective. Where else can you have three to four hours of entertainment for around $40? If, of course, you win, it will be free entertainment, but it won’t be enough to pay your bills.

SO COME WITH A SMILE, LEAVE WITH A SMILE, BUT HAVE NO MERCY DURING THE GAME.

Good Luck
